EPEE Director General Andrea Voigt gave a presentation on 10 July, during the first session of the UNEP Workshop on safety standards relevant to the use of low global-warming-potential (GWP) alternatives in Bangkok.
Talking about the impact of safety standards on the implementation of legislation and the choice of technologies by manufacturers, Andrea concluded that a coordinated approach between standards and legislation is indispensable to ensure successful implementation. She called on industry to join the relevant standardization committees to ensure high quality and technical neutrality of standards.
The workshop provided an opportunity for informed discussions on technical and policy aspects related to the safe use of flammable refrigerants as alternatives in the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) sectors and focused in particular on one aspect of safety standards: flammability.
