LEUVEN, 19 April 2018: At this year’s Annual General Meeting of the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), members re-elected Juergen Goeller from UTC-Carrier for another two-year mandate as Chair. The renewed Steering Committee will continue to drive forward the work of the trade association. Within the different EPEE Working Groups, members also elected the Chairs and Vice-Chairs.

“EPEE has enjoyed a very successful – and busy – last twelve months” explained EPEE Director General Andrea Voigt. “We welcomed three new members: GREE, Krajowe Forum Chłodnictwa, and Daikin Refrigerants. We also held events across Europe and the world on f-gas, heating & cooling, energy efficiency, and much more, and have further positioned our association as a leading voice on the European and global stage.”

The last year has been marked by a number of activities and fascinating projects that EPEE will further develop during the upcoming year.

EPEE is collaborating with three partner associations – AREA, ASERCOM and EFCTC – to carry out a communications campaign on f-gas, targeting installers in particular, and aiming to ensure that all stakeholders understand the importance of implementing the F-gas Regulation. To this end, the associations have developed a dedicated leaflet, translated in many EU languages that they are distributing across Europe. They also produced a video reflecting the leaflet’s messages that will be shared broadly. EPEE will also continue their productive collaboration with UN Environment on the HFC Outlook project, a modelling tool to support developing countries in view of achieving the HFC phase-down under the Kigali Amendment.

EPEE members’ technologies have the potential to significantly reduce the impact on climate, reduce energy consumption, limit energy demand and increase energy security in Europe. EPEE has therefore provided input to the ongoing revision of the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, the Energy Efficiency Directive and Renewable Energy Directive to ensure that energy efficiency in buildings becomes a reality.

EPEE is also actively involved in the development & implementation of the ecodesign and energy labelling measures for the product groups it covers. Regulations for small air-conditioners and space heaters are currently under review and EPEE is working with partners and providing input to ensure that the new rules increasing the overall energy efficiency of products, keep the cost for consumers at a minimum and maintain room for innovation and competition.

The second edition of EUREKA – EUREKA 2017 – brought together around 100 stakeholders in Berlin, Germany, in December, for interactive discussions on the expectations of the next generation and their views on products of the future. A group of students, coming from the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, attended the conference, participated in panel sessions with industry representatives and contributed to the brainstorming sessions of the conference – giving another perspective to discussions. Plans are already underway for the next EUREKA events: one Roadshow event will take place in Romania in December 2018, and the next EUREKA event will be held in June 2019 in Bruges, Belgium (TBC).

Andrea Voigt concluded: “This year’s EPEE AGM has set very ambitious objectives for the next 12 months, and we look forward to working together with members, associations around the world, and other stakeholders to ensure these objectives come to fruition.”
