The F-Gas Regulation Review

The European Union is currently preparing for the F-Gas Regulation Review. The European Commission has commissioned the consultants from Öko-Recherche to conduct a preliminary preparatory study, which was handed over to them in July 2011.

Taking into consideration the findings of this study, the European Commission presented a report in September 2011 on the effectiveness of the F-Gas Regulation. The public consultation on the F-Gas Regulation Review has just been closed. In respect to the consultation, EPEE has published our response below. Now the Commission is undergoing an impact assessment with the legislative proposal expected to be released in the first half of 2012.

EPEE strongly supports the F-Gas Regulation, as it contributes to reduce Europe’s CO2 emissions. Implementation in the Member States is still in progress and therefore, the Regulation and its potential to reduce emissions has not been fully exploited yet. Please see our December 2011 position paper on recommendations for improvement of the F-Gas Regulation for more information.
