Appointment of new Danish Government
Denmark's centre-right coalition led by Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen won a second term in February 2005. For much of the last century, the Social Democrats dominated Danish politics but were forced out by Mr Rasmussen and his coalition of Liberals and Conservatives, and their allies the far-right Danish People's Party, in 2001.
The issue of immigration dominated the election campaigns. Environmental issues were not the main focus of the main political parties’ campaigns.
With the two-party coalition reliant on its support to pass legislation, the
Danish People's Party is in the comfortable position of being able to exert
significant influence.
